RFID-based Intelligent Management System for Construction Safety Helmets
02 Mar 2026
RFID technology empowers intelligent management of safety helmets and has been widely applied in construction sites. Through the binding of "person hat data", it achieves seamless attendance, real-time positioning, safety warning, and compliance control, significantly improving the efficiency and digitalization level of construction safety management.
1、 Core components of the system
RFID safety helmet tag
Each safety helmet is equipped with a passive RFID tag that is ultra-high frequency (UHF), metal resistant, waterproof, and drop resistant. It can read distances of 0.5-3 meters and supports batch writing of personnel information (such as name, job number, position, team, etc.) to ensure unique identification.
Deployment of read-write devices
Channel type reader: installed at the entrance and exit of the construction site, with directional antenna to achieve 3-8-meter long-distance recognition, supporting multiple people to pass and clock in synchronously.
Handheld/portable reader/writer: used for temporary inspection, supplementary attendance recording, or hazardous area inspection and verification.
Anti collision algorithm support: avoids signal interference when multiple devices run in parallel, ensuring recognition accuracy.
Intelligent management platform
The data is uploaded in real-time to the cloud or local system, supporting attendance statistics, personnel distribution heatmap, historical trajectory playback, abnormal warning (such as not clocking in, trespassing) and other functions, and can be integrated with the government's real name supervision platform.
2、 Core functions and advantages
Sensorless attendance, doubled efficiency
Workers wear RFID safety helmets when entering and leaving the construction site, and the system automatically records the time and location without manual operation. The actual measurement of a certain affordable housing project shows that the entry time of workers has been reduced from 45 minutes to 12 minutes.
Mandatory wearing and implementation of safety regulations
Those who do not wear safety helmets cannot pass through access control or complete attendance, and the phenomenon of "wearing helmets to enter and taking off helmets for work" should be eliminated, and safety behavior constraints should be strengthened.
Real time positioning and electronic fence
Electronic fences should be set up in high-risk areas such as deep foundation pits and high-altitude work areas. The system will automatically sound an alarm when unauthorized personnel enter. Some solutions can be linked to vehicle mounted equipment to achieve automatic locking and prevent collision accidents.
Data traceability helps with management decision-making
Support exporting attendance reports, analyzing job distribution, tracking training status (marking exceptions for incomplete trainees), providing a basis for salary accounting, performance evaluation, and accident investigation.
Enhanced emergency response capability
When sudden events such as collapse or fire occur, the system can quickly locate the location of trapped personnel to improve rescue efficiency.
3、 Typical application scenarios
Construction site access control management: Implement real name entry and exit control for personnel, and improve government evaluation scores (a certain project has increased from 82 points to 97 points).
Power inspection operation: After the inspection personnel arrive at the designated point, the system automatically records the time and location to ensure that the inspection is in place.
Equipment inspection and maintenance linkage: safety helmet tags interact with equipment RFID to record the inspection process and clarify responsibility attribution.
